The vast grounds have several swimming pools, stunning architecture using natural stone, 10 restaurants, eight bars, a kids' club and a spa. The beach, complete with lounges, is very nice and kayaks are available to weave through the river. Charming rooms featuring local décor, air-conditioned bathrooms and separate showers, comfortable beds and furnished patios with hammocks.
Buffet and a la carte dining options include Mexican, Asian and international cuisine, but some are exclusive to certain guests or require an additional fee. Travelers won't experience the crowds beyond check-in and check-out, but otherwise the atmosphere is mostly peaceful and quiet. For smaller, adjacent properties, consider Rosewood Maykoba.
Opened in December 2017, this eco-focused all-inclusive hotel is owned by Experiencias Xcaret, a company that manages several theme parks dedicated to Mexican and Mayan history, landscapes, and culture. Of course, the biggest draw of the Xcaret Hotel is that guests get free admission and transportation to the park, as they simply have to take the bus or boat several times a day.

However, there is much to see on site as the design blends in seamlessly with the natural rock, river and forest. Housing 900 rooms in five 'cabins', some with special features and exclusive amenities, the grounds are large and well maintained. Guests first jog down the long pathway past the garden entrance to arrive in a papaya-style lobby with hanging planters, various natural materials, and custom cream poufs beside the log table.

From there, steps lead down to a stone walkway that circles the water landscape which leads to an ocean-view infinity pool with a swim-up bar. The resort retreat is a lovely mix of caves and coves, surrounded by lush greenery, which guests can explore by foot, kayak or snorkel;
visitors should keep an eye out for flamingos, iguanas, and tropical fish. Hotel Xcaret has a stunning design with lots of nooks and crannies for guests to explore, and many areas take advantage of the stunning Caribbean views. Guests wear wristbands that act as room key cards, access to all-inclusive dining and even various camera sensors scattered throughout the resort.
The property attracts international and domestic couples and families, and since many spend their time in one of the gardens, the atmosphere is relaxed. The only time guests are likely to experience a crowd is during check-in and check-out, when lines can get quite long.

On the downside, the swinging bridge and lack of handrails in some areas can be difficult for those with mobility issues. This property is undeniably impressive, but the price tag is high. For a cheaper option with direct entry into the park (but not free entry), consider Occidental at Xcaret Destination.
For smaller, intimate properties in Playa del Carmen, the luxurious Banyan Tree Mayakoba stands out. The beachfront Xcaret Hotel is in a fantastic location for travelers planning to spend a lot of time at one of the nearby parks. Guests receive free admission and transportation (by boat or bus) to all of the parks, including Xcaret Eco-Park (with Maya shows), adventurous Xplor, and Xel-Ha, a great snorkeling spot.
Additionally, tours are part of an all-inclusive package to Chichen Itza and the region's cenotes, formerly about two and a half hours' drive away. Guests aren't within walking distance of anything, but the center of Playa del Carmen is about an 18-minute drive. Peaceful Tulum and its ruins are a 45-minute drive south, and Cancun is an 80-minute drive north.
Cancun International Airport is an hour's free drive away. The 900 rooms at the Xcaret Hotel are all decorated the same way, done in a modern, beachy aesthetic with lots of locally inspired elements. Expect contemporary wood furniture, cream marble floors, pink accent walls, embroidered rugs from Oaxaca and turquoise cushions.

A standout feature of each room is a furnished outdoor balcony with chairs and a hammock, as well as lounge chairs and some with sea views. Starting at 575 square feet and going up significantly in upgraded units, rooms are spacious and all come with a sofa, glass table and chairs, a desk and an air-conditioned bathroom.
Bathrooms also include separate rainfall showerheads, and luxury amenities include bubble bath, digital scale, hairdryers, bathrobes and slippers. Rooms are spread out between five buildings, each with its own theme.
Casa Fuego is adults only and features an exclusive swimming pool with ocean views and a bar and restaurant. Casa Agua is near the spa and focuses on wellness, while Casa Tierra is perfect for families. Rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor usually face the river or garden.

There's also plenty to keep visitors busy while on the property. Many pools, lagoons and rivers offer places to dive, snorkel or use the free kayaks and paddleboards. The ocean-view infinity pool with swim-up bar is a favorite, as is the sandy lagoon and tropical fish.
At the rear of the resort is a family-friendly children's pool with waterslides, as well as a bar for adults. Casa Fuego has a luxurious rooftop pool. The beach on the ocean side is long and beautiful, natural, with rocky areas. Raincoats sit under umbrellas and flags marking swimming conditions;
red means dangerous, while green means safe. The elegant spa is stunning, with 15 individual cabins in their own cave structure, a hydrotherapy area with hot and cold pools, sauna, and nail and hair salon. The popular kids club has activities all day long and is located next to the kid friendly buffet restaurant in Chibali.
There are tennis courts and three gyms (some exclusive to certain buildings), plus the hotel offers free yoga, meditation and Tai Chi daily. A magnificent chapel is also on site, and affords stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the Caribbean Sea. Wedding and event space is available, and a conference was held near the lobby during our visit.
