Insta Story View! :D - Picture Of Hotel On Rivington, New York City - TripadvisorSource: media-cdn.tripadvisor.com

The Rivington Hotel is a secret hot spot for well-heeled travelers who find their surroundings cool and threadbare. Sleek and sleek, the money vibe doesn't befit the Lower East Side's immigrant history, but the luxurious rooms and spectacular views may be worth the look. Since opening in October 2004, the 110-room hotel in Rivington has welcomed wealthy clients who consider the Lower East Side its after-hours playground.

Guests include celebrities, hedge fund types, European thrill seekers and elite members of the creative class who expect their hotels to be as cool as their careers. The hotel's public spaces certainly live up to these expectations, with unusual design elements such as a full-size pool table in the lobby and an igloo-like entrance.

The Rivington Hotel always seems to have a scene. The hotel's three-story penthouse is a popular event space and wedding venue, complete with a hot tub and panoramic views of New York City. The rooms are very cool and luxurious. Highlights include super beds with contoured Tempur-Pedic mattresses, 500 thread count Frett fabrics;

large steam showers; and stunning New York City views through floor-to-ceiling glass walls in rooms on the 7th floor and above. A hotel in Rivington certainly holds its own with a group of expensive hip-center hotels that include the Bowery, Crosby Street and SIXTY LES.

For most of the last century, the Lower East Side was a rental housing area for new immigrants trying to get a foothold in America. Now the rental apartments have become expensive apartments where young investment bankers like to dress up as punk rockers at night.

The streets are still a bit muddy, but there's no shortage of party action. Despite the changes, the LES is very unique and 100 percent gentrified. Many old shops, restaurants and galleries are open and thriving, as are quirky performers like ABC No Rio and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

Safety isn't a big issue, but neither is Park Avenue in the LES. The constant nightlife is a lot of foot traffic and noise until the day. The elegant, comfortable rooms are even better. As always, higher is better (and more expensive), but with a 21-story hotel towering above the surrounding rental properties, the view of the city shouldn't be over the top;

even my room on the 4th floor faced the noisy street which was great for people. The best features are the spacious grounds, such as a bar and pool table, and a three-story penthouse with a rooftop hot tub. The fitness and business centers are currently being renovated.

Across the street is the legendary Economic Candy; but other than that, there isn't much for kids at the hotel or in the LES. The hotel's famous tacteria, Victor & Thieves, offers seasonal Mexican food and classic tequila drinks, but is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The Juice Press, on the first floor of the hotel, offers vegetarian meals and cold-pressed juices and is available for room service. The hotel's restaurant and lounge is undergoing renovations and is slated to open in spring 2016. Fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants to cater to the crowds arriving on the Lower East Side.
